All artist sites on Bandcamp now work and look great on mobile. We’ve optimized everything for the smaller screen and touch interface, so your albums look fantastic, fans can browse through your merch store with ease, and the checkout flow is fast and intuitive:

Does this mean you expect my fans to launch their mobile browser and peck out dubya-dubya-dubya myband dot bandcamp dot com? No. But for all those fans checking their Facebook or Twitter feed on their phone, and who then see a link to your latest release, they’ll be able to listen and purchase immediately:

Is there anything I need to do to get all this goodness? No, all of this is working now, you don’t need to do anything. However, if you’d like a mobile-specific header image (like the ones you see in the screenshots above), you can upload one from your profile page.

Am I excited about this? We flipped on the mobile-optimized view a few days ago and sales from mobile devices immediately doubled. So if you’re just streaming on Bandcamp and linking to a non-mobile-optimized site for your sales, no, you’re not excited at all. But if you’re selling digital on Bandcamp, yes, you are fired up. And if your merch is also on Bandcamp, you are excited++.

Wow, this looks awesome! Fantastic work, thank you so very much, Bandcamp!
Fantastic, I’ve been hanging out for this. Now I just need to fix up my own site. ;)
Yea its great, not to bash other sites similiar to bandcamp. but bandcamp is so clean and smooth, and the customization and no ads, i have no problem letting them get a cut in my music just to continue to support their great experience.
Hello,
As always with you this is awesome, I just wanted to ask you, is audio compressed on the mobile version? I tried the mobile version some minutes ago and it sounded a little bit compressed, but I wanted to know if it was a problem I had or is designed that way, cheers!
Thanks Albert. It’s the same audio stream as on the desktop version.
looks great!! thanks!
I love you all @bandcamp
Thanks again BandCamp for an awesome platform for our music. It just keeps getting better!I noticed that a different track than #1 on the CD is set to be the sample for listening. Do you guys pick which track gets played and shown first?
Nope, you pick it Allan. Just edit your album, and click the green star next to the track you want to feature. It’ll be cued up default on your album pages, in embedded players, and it’s also what will play on Discover.
Awesome! Thx Bandcamp
Makes my music and other artists work so much more accessible.
Good work dudes! It’d be great if you could somehow get the audio to stream even when the screen is locked or you’re in another window. I guess the work-around there is that people should just download the songs!
Great ! I had some negative feedback from fans trying to stream songs to their mobile… I guess those times are over now.
Oh, and by the way:
I don’t own a smartphone, and don’t intend to in the future.
Is there a way I can check how my bandcamp site looks on one from my home computer ?
Thanks so much! We’ve been begging for this and you guys came through. I know we should take it one thing at a time however I’m still requesting that you add share links for Google Plus for those of us that prefer that platform. Rock on!
Hi,
Mobile version looks great! However, there is probably HTML5 audio player used to allow playback on iPhone/iPad unlike Flash-based player for embeding on websites. When would be this code available to embed too? We would like to use it on regular band’s website as it is being designed/optimized also for mobile devices.
Thanks.
Hell fuckn yeah!
Beautiful as always!
Hello peeps. Amazing news and as usual shits on the other service provider I use both aesthetically and functionally. Why I still pay to use them I don’t know. Must be the email management or something.
Anyway, does this mean album purchase on mobile delivers something other than ZIP files? I am curious.
I met the bandcamp CEO’s a few years back at a conference from Oakland Digital Arts center. Real cool down to earth guys I have been using bandcamp ever since. While promoting my new album I was just thinking about a feature like this and here it is!!! Wow thank you guys…
Malki Means King
Great Job!
Really Love it!
Looks beautiful!!
Thanks so Much @Bandcamp :)
That is brilliant! Only a few days ago I was thinking it would be cool if you guys would do this so I was really excited to get your email. It looks great too. As with everything Bandcamp, it’s done right! It’s effective and covers all the bases, looks good – no mess, just the right things in the right places!
The proportion of internet usage that’s mobile-based is increasing rapidly so this has come at a perfect time to help us get our music out to those people who hardly ever look at a computer screen!
Cheers – DC
Great stuff! But the band/about photo looks terrible on the mobile version.
This is fantastic, thanks!
Just wondering, is it possible to disable the postcode/zipcode field for free downloads on the mobile site (or at all)? This could be a great way to get people to sign up for downloads at gigs etc, but I think on a mobile having the dropdown + extra text field to fill in might put people off – it’s only a tiny extra step but when you’re out & about having fun, there’s only a certain amount of fiddly form filling you’re gonna put up with!
This looks great !!
The best love this site
ONE TIME @ BANDCAMP – AWSOME IDEAS – GOOD WORK ;-)
This all looks amazing! But, now when I’m listening on my iphone, the audio cuts out when I turn off the screen, which it never did before. Is there some reason it can’t play with the screen locked?
Thanks Dan, we’ll take a look.
How can I get the front page of my mobile site to show all the albums made instead of just the first?
This is actually pretty cool. Nice one.
WOW… Thanks for upgrading the look/feel for mobile! Fantastic job.
Beautiful! Nice work.
The new look is great and was wondering if you guys are going to change the player on site to look like the player on the moble.
It looka gorgeously awesome!! Thanks :)
How does it look on a tiny Blackberry screen?
Hi Bandcamp,
I’m just finishing up my first album and very excited to get my website and Bandcamp talking. With feature, I’m even more excited.
Thanks,
Shaun
Bandcamp, if you were a woman, I’d marry you:). Thank you for being awesome!
Very nice indeed. Thank you bandcamp!
Hi guys,
The page looks beautiful, but I have a bug report of sorts for you –
the old version of the mobile-enabled streaming page would continue to play tracks in the background or with the screen off on iOS devices, but with this new version, it seems that the stream stops as soon as the page loses focus, either when a user switches to another app or when the backlight times out.
I don’t know if this is something you can handle from your end or not, but it might need to be looked into.
Thank you for this, Bandcamp! Could you please tell us what the recommended dimensions are for creating a custom mobile header image?
Sure, it’s over on your profile page, and it’s 640 pixels wide, 40-124 pixels tall, and should be a .jpg, .gif or .png.
Excellent feature as always. One thing I noticed – in the full browser version you can set up a bandcamp URL as an index page that includes albums from other artists. On the mobile version, the albums from other artists are not listed anywhere. Would be nice to have this “label catalog” type of functionality available for mobile in some fashion.
Agreed, we’ll have index pages working from mobile soon.
Happy to see that the messages I’ve sent over to you guys a long time ago were eventually followed through …
Wonderful!!! Awesome layout!!! Just what we needed. Thanks to all at Bandcamp!!! It’s Beautiful!!!
Band Camp is on a roll, all the updates have been great. One thing I would love to see is an option to post release date and genres next to release title on releases page.
Great new enhancements. However, I have individual artwork for each of the songs on my latest release. Is there a setting that allows the artwork to change with each song streamed? (Mobile Version.)
I know I’m excited. This is a development that this indie record label has been waiting for, for a long time! Congrats, and a hearty and heady Woo hoo!
Super friggin awesome! Keep up the best work known on the entire internet!!
Woohoo!
Really really a good work! Look amazing and easy to use.
Keep up the word: “Indie or Die”… you, guys are indie!
Awesome work!
Always improving this great service with awesome features.
Thanks for all this, Bandcamp’s team.
Happy dayz. Only e-mailed you about this a month ago and WHOOP there it is! Thanks x
Can’t thank ya’ll enough for doing this. Ya’ll are revolutionizing the way for Independent Artists.
Thank you Bandcamp.
You guys have never disappointed. Everything looks beautiful!! My latest project is primarily free. Wish I had more money coming in so you could get a bigger cut! You and your service deserve it. Thank you for all that you do!
Christopher
This is AWESOME!!! Everyone on the streets of NYC is staring down into their smartphone. Now they can get the new tunes. Some friends don’t even have computers, so…
Is there anyway to customize/change the formatting – like background? Thanks for all the enhancements.
Really love the site and all the improvements you keep on making… I love that it’s no bullcrap, straight forward, no need to log in to download, all that… really a stellar job and a really great tool for independent bands/musicians/promoters/etc… I recommend it to all the bands I work with…
you guys have the best site and it is by far the easiest and most logical to use in terms of uploading and editing your tracks. thanks
I’ve always been a firm believer that the Bandcamp platform is THE platform for independent musicians. The bandcamp mobile site upgrade just made the best platform even BETTER.
Really love the site and all the improvements. Look amazing and easy to use. Very nice indeed. Thank you bandcamp! Fantastic job!
This is awesome news!
BUT… what is needed now is an embeddable HTML5 player like is provided by Soundcloud.
Looks great. Bandcamp really does make me excited to start releasing some songs. Professional look without the professional cost. Keep it up!
Hi Paul,
Our embedded player is now HTML5-based on browsers that support HTML5 with the MP3 audio mime type. The shareable player widget is all HTML for the user interface, and the underlying audio code will fall back to a minimal (and invisible) flash nugget for browsers which don’t natively support HTML5+MP3.
Your next suggestion will probably be to add additional streaming formats like OGG for browsers which don’t support MP3 natively, so I’ll just say we would eventually like to do that as well, but we don’t have an ETA on that.
This is great news. Mobile optimization will definitely help all us artists.
Hi Ethan,
Thanks for all of you work at Bandcamp and for doing what you do. The platform is great, I’ve been using it for years and it has certainly become a significant part of the creative process.
Thanks,
Andrew
